On May 18, 2026, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth appeared and spoke before a campaign rally in support of Republican candidate Ed Gallrein in Hebron, Kentucky.
Mr. Hegseth clearly violated the Hatch Act. Equally as clearly, he will not be found guilty during this administration. Hopefully, there is no statute of limitations.
Federal employees found guilty of violating the Hatch Act face penalties that include termination of employment, debarment from federal service for up to five years, suspension without pay, reduction in grade, formal reprimand, or civil fines up to $1,000. Although not particularly onerous for someone like Petey, I wouldn’t hold my breath that an investigation, by anyone affiliated with this administration, will actually result in any of those penalties.
Excellent summary of the Hatch Act, which in and of itself is an important civics lesson. In service to our country, it shouldn't be too much to expect senior officials such as the Secretary of Defense to adhere to the law. Hegseth is not the only one in the current administration who seems to believe otherwise. This also underscores additional dangers lurking in the Roberts Majority's embrace of the Unitary Executive Theory as set forth in their recent Slaughter decision. If the Unitary Executive has ultimate and unchecked power over Executive Branch officials, what stops the President from turning the Hatch Act on its head and demanding that federal officials actively engage in partisan political activity in order to keep their jobs?
Nice! You've got the facts. You've got the law. This important, especially in the broader context of so many things Hegseth has done to politicize our armed forces.
His day will come. He thinks he above the law just like drumpf. They will all see a reckoning at some point. mOst likely drupe will see his sooner and quite possibly by becoming 6 feet under. He is not the perfect example of health. pete and all his/her minions in the cabinet have committed enough crimes to sink a battle ship. The drumpf kids also need to have their government contracts cancelled for their drone enterprise.

I hope OSC opens a case!

Thank you!
Wonderful
The OSC personnel are appointed by the President, correct? How many are trump appointees?
