It seems to me that Americans have failed to teach critical thinking and have failed to use critical thinking. The existence of an audience for Fox News proves this failure.
Thanks for this Steven. Coincidently and complementary is a current long essay by James Marriott: "The dawn of the post-literate society". The content illustrates how 77.3 million Americans were manipulated enough to reelect someone with such a long record of business failure, dishonesty and malignant narcissism. In your section describing the cyle of abuse of trust leading to ungovernability & more negatives you touch on his thesis that the advent of the smart phone and increasing use of social media is causing consistently measurable dissolution of individual and group cognitive sovereignty. Marriott condenses the history of the connection between literacy and effective governance & progress in industry and general wellbeing. (I would add the harms of monopolized and biased mainstream media.) His point is we're headed back into feudalism and mysticism / magical thinking as a mitigating reaction to malignant manipulation. https://jmarriott.substack.com/p/the-dawn-of-the-post-literate-society-aa1?r=41pd0&utm_campaign=post-expanded-share&utm_medium=web
While I agree with the overall premise, I’d like to point out that 77M Americans did NOT vote for trump in 2024. The election was badly manipulated to make it appear that he and his regime have that much support and power.
Thank you, Steven, for so clearly describing the existential danger of the disappearance of truth in a society. Strong, healthy, successful nations require competent "servant leaders" to protect society from myriad threats. National strength and success, however, also depend upon the sine qua non of a citizenry willing to contribute and sacrifice collectively in response to the leader's direction. When the people cannot trust their leaders because they are known to lie (as authoritarians uniformly do), the nation's cohesiveness and effectiveness are literally sucked downward into a quicksand of dangerous failure and folly. Welcome, America, to the failure and folly of the Trump regime...
Thanks for posting this clear explanation of the eventual downfall of this criminal clown car regime. It is very well written and does provide hope even though the road to democracy and trust will be long…
I second the Amen! Thank you for articulating the crisis of trust we face. We have a long road ahead of us to restore this essential human need.

Please see ThisWillHold.Substack.com and ElectionTruthAlliance.substack.com for details. There’s several whistleblowers who’ve come forward to share their information. Bottom line: he was installed by the billionaires to protect them.
Thanks - Appreciated
Amen!
Many thanks.

Shared with a hopefully former Trump voter.
